Why we’re here

The Life Learning Center was born from a desire to address the “root cause” behind a cycle of poverty. While many reputable organizations contribute niched services to address social issues, no single agency was addressing underlying barriers such as a lack of education, financial resources, and applicable skills to sustain a living wage career.

So in 2005, a group of enthusiastic leaders established our center with a mission to provide life skills training alongside continued care to people in need so they can pursue and achieve a better way of life. In 2010, we launched our Foundations for a Better Life program.

By 2014, we expanded into our new Covington facility to better serve our growing population—which increased 200% by 2016. We soon began forming strategic partnerships with community organizations, including a formalized partnership with Kenton County Detention Center and the Department of Corrections.

Since 2016, we’ve continued to see exponential growth in our numbers and our partnerships. Our approach is innovative and unique; we have yet to find another organization that does what we do. As noted in Philanthropy Roundtable’s nationally recognized Almanac of American Philanthropy, “Life Learning Center is one of the most successful nonprofits in the country at helping struggling people heal and get jobs so they can support themselves in independence and dignity.” However, our full ability to serve is still evolving. As we continue to expand into new markets, our impact will continue to grow.

Life Learning Center helps people achieve “transformative change” by choosing a new life and working to achieve it. Our rehabilitation and reintegration services harness the untapped potential in our communities by empowering individuals to be active contributors to society, ultimately leading to collective resilience and prosperity.
